Rules are meant to be broken.
NOVEMBER 2022
In the fashion world, if you know how to do it correctly, breaking old rules can make the world of difference to your wardrobe and take an outfit to ‘fashion forward’ and edgy!
I’ve gathered some of those rules and will show you how they don’t exist anymore!
1. “Sweat Pants are to be worn ONLY when relaxing.” There is nothing more chic and sassy than wearing a pair of sweat pants or joggers with a fabulous high heel and going out in the evening! These are so comfortable and stylish when wearing them with a pair of Vans/ Puma sneakers and then a leather fitted jacket!
2. “Never clash colours.” What’s wrong with wearing Red and Pink together or Orange and Green? Neutrals can be so boring and if you want to be seen and remembered this is the way to go. First determine whether you are cool, warm or neutral by holding a piece of white paper next to your face. You are most likely cool if your skin looks pink, rosy or blue next to it and complementary colours include blues, blue-greens, purples, magentas and reds with a blue base. If your skin tone appears brown, yellow or green, you’re likely to be warm, and will suit yellows, oranges, yellow-greens and orange-based reds.
If you’re still struggling to work out which tone you are, the veins on your under wrists can also help – if they look blue or purple, you’re probably cool; green means warm.
3. “Don’t double denim.” This style tended to tell people that you had married your cousin back in the day – not anymore! Try putting different coloured denim next to each other. So you may have a dark indigo pair of jeans, then pair these with a lighter coloured denim fitted shirt. Fantastic!
4. “Never mix your prints.” The best way to do this is look for prints that have a common colour running thru it. Black and white prints mix really easily, Strips and polka dots. You can also mix two pieces with the same print as in wearing smaller stripes and larger stripes together.
5. “Stick to only wearing one coloured metal at a time.” If you like the look and your skin suits gold, rose gold and silver then enjoy the variety. Do stick with the same ‘theme’ jewelry though eg: boho, statement pieces, gems etc.
